A Modern Christmas Carol
A Modern Christmas Carol
An Adaptation of A Christmas Carol
By Charles Dickens.
I look around and I see all the Christmas spirit gone. This has no meaning to Christmas anymore.
Before my time and when I was oh, so very young:-
Christmas Past
People in those days helped and supported one-another, all the year round, and made sure no-one were left out in the cold. When Christmas came good and bold, people and societies of this world had lots of Christmas Cheer, being joyous; giving; loving; sharing and spreading peace and happiness.
Christmas Present
As the years rolled by the Sabbath became a working day, and now Sunday along side with Christmas is commercialised. People bustling by with no thought of word or deed for others. Stepping over some-one who can be in need, but it does not matter who is the needy they are left without a thought. People’s consciousness, will prick their minds and will sit there and think. ‘Oh, I will donate to this charity, to that charity”. They will feel justified that they will have done their festive duty.
Christmas Future
The people of yester-year from years gone by, who have been taught to be merry and high with the festive season all the year round helping; giving; loving; sharing of truly Christmas is meant to be. Is this not, what Christmas is all about? What it means to the world to say, “Hey! Look over here, share love spread happiness all the year”.
Please spare a thought, to your next door neighbour, or someone you know who can be alone this year.
A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens
Charles Dickens himself
For those who have not read or seen a film of his works, here he is:-
Charles Dickens (Charles John Huffam Dickens), He was born in Landport, Portsmouth. 7 February 1812, died 9th June 1870 from a Stroke. On his grave bares an inscription “He was a sympathiser to the poor, the suffering, and the oppressed, his death, one of England’s greatest writers is lost to the world.”
The inscription is written on the web site Dickens-online.info.
One of England’s Victorian finest novelist that there ever was, wrote unforgettable novels, which his works had been transformed into T.V screen plays and films. Oliver Twist is one of my greatest favourites, To name, but just a few, Great expectations; The Old Curiosity Shop; David Copperfield; Hard Times; another favourite of mine, A Christmas Carol,
A Christmas Carol or Scrooge as it is sometimes called. Is about a Victorian gentleman called Ebenezer Scrooge, whom throughout his life, through his own insecurities had forgotten what Christmas is all about.
Scrooge’s view on Christmas was a humbug, the children had to be put in orphanages, let the sick and needy die, so that it will decrease the surplus of the population. With this attitude, as the story goes, Scrooge had been visited by his dead accountant business partner, whom in life was known as Jacob Marley; to prepare and show him his errors of his ways by three ghostly visits, Christmas Past, Christmas Present and Christmas Future. (In this mysterious ghostly way, either you wish to believe or not wish to believe, things do happen to make people change their minds).
In the story Bob Cratchet was an employee, a clerk, to Scrooge and Marley deceased’s accountants firm. Scrooge treated Bob Cratchet with ill-respect during his employment. Whilst all the time, Mr Cratchet and his family were suffering of poverty of how Scrooge was paying him. Within the Cratchet’s family, Bob’s youngest son Tiny Tim a cripple and ill with ill-health, was knocking on deaths door.
The three ghostly visits convinced Scrooge all about Christmas by taking him into his own Christmas Past, Present and Future. All of this was done in one night Christmas Eve. (Throughout Scrooge’s life he became estranged from his only nephew Fred his sister’s son. Families, in this day and age become distant, estranged with one thing or another). His Christmas Future intrigued and pricked his consciousness, so much so that these ghostly visits truly worked. Scrooge was by far, a better man. Kept true to his word to help those in need, he embraced his relationship with his only nephew Fred with such passion and reconciliation, who became like his only Son. As for Bob Cratchet and his family he became like a close family member and with Tiny Tim became like a second father whom he helped to find a cure for his health.
In the story as Tiny Tim would say. “God Bless us everyone”.
So be bold and brave and be that Santa and not a Scrooge.
“Ha! is Christmas a Humbug, after all”.

Very well done. It's written well and covers some great information of Charles Dickens. I'm a fan and have quite a few books on my shelf which I'm quite proud of. Thanks for helping to remind some of the meaning of Christmas, I find it''s definitely a good reminder of how we should behave the rest of the year.
You have brought out an important point here.
Some food for thought
Thanks for SHARING:)
